Recently engaged and planning your wedding?
Recently engaged and planning your wedding in Austin, Texas? Yay, yeehaw (haha), and congrats!
What an exciting time! There are plenty of resources out there, so it can get overwhelming, so in today’s blog post, I will share 5 tips on getting started. And stay for the bonus at the end!
Use Pinterest and Instagram as a guide, not an end all be all. Also remember that Pinterest and Instagram are generally showing weddings that are trendy and designed for the masses/the likes/getting published. If you choose to use Pinterest and Instagram as a source of inspiration, remember to do just that. When looking at an image, think about what you like about that image specifically and also how does it make you feel? Use emotions as a starting point to brainstorm.
Going along with tip 1, beware of SHINY OBJECT SYNDROME. We can all be swayed by what is new, trending, or popular. When this happens, just be aware of it, and remind yourself that your wedding is unique to you as a couple. Take a few breaths, go for a walk, get into nature, and then recalibrate.
When your mind is clear and focused, think about your top three priorities for your wedding. Is it having it outside in a lush garden, with food that celebrates your heritage, and ending with your favorite cover band, covering all the hits and getting everyone on the dance floor? Whatever it is, write it down.
When choosing your vendors, and planning elements of your wedding, always refer back to your top three priorities, especially when making tough decisions about your budget. Is there any wiggle room? What elements can you let go of? Maybe you don’t need a live painter for the ceremony, or can do without the gorgeous but upgraded stationary.
At the very least, hire a month of coordinator (also known as wedding management). This is the one thing that past couples have said over and over again. Even if you plan the entire wedding yourself, you’ll need someone to bring all of your carefully planned details to life on your wedding day. Hiring a month of coordinator will ensure that you have somewhere who knows your visioning all the details so that your wedding day will go how you’ve envisioned, without you having to worry or stress about all the little details leading up to AND especially on your wedding day (and no, you do not want your cousin or mom to be your coordinator - trust us on this)!
Hope these tips help as you begin your wedding planning journey! And if this feels like too much and you feel overwhelmed and need a hand, we have a variety of packages to support you in planning your Austin Texas wedding :)
Lastly as promised, here is a wedding planning checklist to get you started. Happy planning!
